THE Nigerian Tribune football team on Wednesday beat their counterparts from Splash FM, Ibadan, 5-4 in the football tournament put together by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo State chapter in conjunction with a leading sport betting company, NAIRABET.
The football competition to be played among media houses in Oyo State as part of activities to mark the annual Week of the association will be taking place inside the main bowl of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
The Tribune Bombers were leading 4-1 at half time, but the Splash FM’s men came back stronger in the second half of the game and scored three goals. Tribune players, however, did not relent in their efforts to carry the day as they scored their fifth goal before the referee’s final blast of the whistle.
The Chief Executive Officer, NAIRABET, Akin Alabi, lauded Oyo SWAN under the leadership of Mr. Niyi Alebiosu for putting in extra efforts to change the face of the association.
“Like I said in my previous interactions with some journalists, I am happy to be associated with Oyo SWAN, I must confess I see a lot of seriousness in the current leadership of the association. So far, I have no regret being a part of Oyo SWAN and I want to use this opportunity to pledge my continued support for the association,” he said.
Alabi will next Wednesday deliver a paper on the topic Benefits of Sports Marketing, while the chairman, League Management Company, Mallam Shehu Dikko, is expected to talk on NPFL: Past, Present and the Future during a seminar organised by Oyo SWAN as part of activities to mark the association’s annual Week celebration.
Reacting to the outcome of the game, chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Tribune chapel, Comrade Tunde Busari, commended the Nigerian Tribune team for the efforts put into the game, while urging them to put more efforts into subsequent games.
In the other game of the day, Naija FM walloped the Oyo State Information chapel 5-1.
Meanwhile, Naija FM will today take on Splash FM in the first game of the day, while Nigerian Tribune will take on Fresh FM in the second game.
