Paratici’s ban upheld as Juventus succeed in 15-point deduction appeal

Italian football club Juventus has had its 15-point deduction suspended after appealing the punishment it received in January for alleged historical transfer dealings breaches.

Juventus had been found guilty of violating capital gains laws in relation to the said transfer dealings.

Former chairman Andrea Agnelli, ex-director Pavel Nedved, and managing director Fabio Paratici were among those who were initially suspended from football by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), together with eight others. However, only Paratici and Agnelli had their suspensions upheld, and Juventus now awaits a re-evaluation of their case by the FIGC Federal Court of Appeal.

The Collegio di Garanzia had referred the case back to the FIGC, and if the appeal is re-evaluated, Juventus could still face punishment. Despite this, the suspension means that Juventus will be placed back into the Champions League places and rise to third in Serie A.

However, the news is bad for Tottenham, as Paratici’s 30-month ban from Italian football, which was extended worldwide by FIFA in March, still stands.

Paratici joined Tottenham in 2021 but stepped back from his duties after his ban was extended. He has not officially left the club.

Juventus’ appeal success came ahead of their Europa League match with Sporting CP on Thursday and their upcoming game against Napoli, the Serie A leaders, on Sunday.
