Former England footballer Paul Gascoigne is currently in hospital after reportedly being found semi-conscious at his home in Poole, Dorset.
According to The Sun, the 58-year-old was admitted to an intensive care unit on Friday before being moved to an acute medical unit. His condition has since been described as stable.
Gascoigne’s personal assistant, Steve Foster—who also serves as his driver and close friend—confirmed the hospitalisation. “Paul is in hospital, which is the best possible place for him to be right now,” Foster was quoted as saying.
He added that Gascoigne appreciates the messages of support he’s received: “Paul would like to thank everyone for the support he’s received so far from so many old friends who wish him well and want to see him back to his best.”
Nicknamed “Gazza,” Gascoigne is regarded as one of the most gifted English footballers of the last four decades. He played for clubs including Newcastle, Tottenham, Lazio, and Rangers, and earned 57 caps for the England national team.
