Manchester United's Paul Pogba has won the inaugural Europa League Player of the Season award.
Pogba was up against teammates Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with all three of them inspirational driving forces behind Manchester United’s triumph.
Both Pogba and Mkhitaryan scored in the 2-0 win over Ajax in the final, while Ibrahimovic was sidelined with a knee ligament injury sustained in the quarter-final second-leg against Anderlecht.
The jury, composed by the coaches of the 48 clubs in last season’s Europe League group stage, as well as 55 journalists selected by the European Sports Media group, voted for the French midfielder, who scored 3 goals in 15 appearances in the competition.
It is the first time UEFA present the accolade to the Europa League player of the season, and Paul Pogba, who could not make it to the event but showed his gratitude with a video, will go down as the first footballer to claim the award.
