PEP GUARDIOLA has warned his high-flying Manchester City stars to beware Alvaro Negredo and a Champions League hangover when they face Middlesbrough today.
Guardiola’s side are brimming with confidence after the midweek demolition but face a striker who scored nine goals for them in his solitary campaign with City three years ago.
And Guardiola warned: “It will be so tough after the Champions League – the mental effort, the physical effort of that game against Barcelona.
“It happened against Southampton when we drew, when we came back from the Barcelona away game.
“And we must not forget, we beat West Brom last week but the Southampton game and Everton game at home were not good.
“That’s why we have to be focused again and win in the Premier League.”
Negredo, on loan at Boro from Valencia, has only scored once this term but has caught Guardiola’s eye with his performances in recent years.
Guardiola said: “I know Negredo and how good he was when he arrived here for the first time. It was outstanding what he did.
“He’s had little injuries but now he’s back in England and doing well.”
Meanwhile, Guardiola revealed he has not yet decided about the future of 31-year-old Argentine defender Pablo Zabaleta, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
The City boss said: “I don’t know in this moment.
“I spoke with Pablo in the beginning – his commitment to be here this year is full.”
