A philanthropist, Lanre Akojede organised a charity cup for footballers in Moro Ife, Osun state on Tuesday.
The initiative which also witnessed the distribution of food items to the aged was meant to encourage footballers in the community and as well give support to the aged.
Speaking with journalists, founder, Lanre Akojede Foundation, Lanre Akojede explained that the tournament and palliative is aimed at giving succour to the needy.
Akojede noted that the gesture is not meant for political purposes but to give back to society.
He also divulged the foundation’s plan to build a home for senior citizens in the community.
The philanthropist however stated that the charity cup is meant to give support to upcoming players whom he is once in their shoes.
“This event is aimed not politically at giving succour to the needy, according to him as once been a player but couldn’t continue as a result of lack of support.”
Speaking at the event, Senior Special Adviser to the Osun state Governor, Ademola Adeleke on Science and Technology, Kunle Bello lauded the organiser of the event.
He explained that the tournament is a special one which gives an avenue to bring all youths together.
In an interview with one of the participants and captain of the winning team at the tournament, Jeremiah Josiah appreciated the organiser of the event while he stated that such tournaments would help the career of footballers in the community.
“I appreciate the founder of the foundation for the initiative, this tournament is a great opportunity that will help the careers of footballers in this local community.
“I am happy to be the champion of the Lanre Akojede Charity Cup, this is a very great opportunity where a lot of players have shown their talents,” he concluded.
