The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has hailed three members from the Super Falcons team who paid him a visit at the State House in Marina.
This comes a week after the Super Falcons were defeated by the Lionesses of England at the ongoing 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
The three team members include Super Falcons stars; Asisat Oshoala, Rashedat Ajibade and Gift Monday.
Taking to his Facebook page to share pictures from the visit late Monday, Sanwo-Olu said the incredible run of the Super Falcons at the tournament has changed the nature of women’s football in Nigeria.
Describing the Falcons’ performance at the tournament as remarkable, the governor said it was an honor to receive the footballers in his office.
Sanwo-Olu also commended the players for presenting him with jerseys and other gifts.
He wrote, “Honoured to have received some team members of our remarkable Super Falcons at the Lagos House in Marina earlier today.
“Asisat Oshoala who came in company of Rasheedat Ajibade and Monday Gift, came to pay us a courtesy visit.
“The Super Falcons’ incredible run at the FIFA Women’s World Cup has ignited a new era of enthusiasm for women’s football in Nigeria. Their achievements on the field and the unity they brought to our nation are truly remarkable. We will continue to empower and encourage our female athletes and also work towards a brighter future for women’s football in Nigeria.
“A big thank you to these amazing ladies for their visit, and for the gifts of the clubs jerseys.”
