Head coach of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) FC of Lagos, Fidelis Ilechukwu has said the ability of his charges to play to instruction earned them their first away win of the season in the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League at the expense of Sunshine Stars.
Stephen Odey’s 48th minute effort helped his side to claim the crucial away win in Akure.
Ilechukwu said his wards made him happy with their impressive performance against a more experienced side, Sunshine Stars.
“The victory against Sunshine Stars is all about players listening to instruction as well as putting the instruction to work.
“The players are young and hungry to achieve a landmark result and that’s what we got at Sunshine Stars.
“I believe in the boys and I think they are doing the work perfectly well.
“Sunshine Stars were not push-overs, they are matured and actually gave good account of themselves, only that they met youngsters who are determined not to lose to another Southwest opponent.
“I’m happy we got it right this time around, we are not going to sit back to celebrate the victory forever, rather, we move fast to work on the next match at newcomers ABS FC,” Ilechukwu told supersport.com.
Meanwhile, leading scorer in the NPFL Stephen Odey has rejected an offer from Russian club FC Rostov, insisting he would rather prefer to start out in mainland Europe.
The agent who brought the Russian deal spoke with representatives of Odey, who maintained their client will not start his pro career from Russia, but hopes he could start from countries like Belgium and Norway.
Odey himself said he will work with the decision of his agent.
“I have very little say in this, mine is to play football. If my representatives tell me to take up the offer, I will because I trust their judgment,” said the young striker, who netted nine goals in NPFL last season.
“I am just concentrating on my football and try to give my best.
“I strongly believe this is my year and I will put enough hard work in other to excel this season.”
