Nigeria and Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi has lamented their 2-1 English Premier League loss at the hands of Manchester City on Sunday evening.
The 20-year-old says the Gunners took their “foot off the gas” in the second half with his side having taken an early lead through Theo Walcott.
However, Arsene Wenger’s men gave up an equaliser just minutes after the break and struggled to recover as City dominated the second half which saw Raheem Sterling netting the winner.
While Wenger lashed at the officials for what he claimed were two offside goals, Iwobi admitted that the team lost their intensity after the break.
“I guess you could say we took our foot off the gas. Man City took advantage very well in the second half,” he told the club website.
“We were up against a tough side today, we were just unfortunate to not keep the win.
“We’re going to keep on going, fight until the end and see where we go. We’ll just have to continue how we were playing at the start of the season.
“We just have to get that back and kick on now and prepare well for the next game.”
The Super Eagles star made his return in the starting line-up after being dropped in recent league games, but was taken off for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the second half.
The match was Arsenal’s second straight EPL defeat after going 14 games unbeaten in the division, they now trail Chelsea by nine points.
Arsenal will now hope to return to winning ways when they face West Bromwich Albion on Boxing Day at Emirates Stadium.
