The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), on Monday announced that from Friday, 3rd October to Sunday, 5th October 2025, all jetties and terminals along the five Cowries Creek waterways route will be temporarily closed down for the world’s first all-electric powerboat racing tournament, the E1 Championship.
In a statement released by the LASWA Public Affairs Unit, the State government said that the waterways restriction is a vital safety and security measure to ensure seamless event operations, safeguard lives, and project Lagos as a world-class destination for international sporting events.
The LASWA statement reads: “The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), hereby notifies the general public, ferry operators, passengers, and all stakeholders in the waterways sector that all private and commercial jetties/terminals along the Five Cowries Creek will be closed from Friday, 3rd October to Sunday, 5th October 2025.
“This temporary closure is to facilitate the successful hosting of the E1 Championship, the world’s first all-electric powerboat racing tournament, with the Lagos series scheduled to take place along the five cowries creek during this period.
“The waterways restriction is a vital safety and security measure to ensure seamless event operations, safeguard lives, and project Lagos as a world-class destination for international sporting events.
“Normal operations at the affected jetties and terminals will resume on Monday, 6th October 2025.
“We urge all waterway users to kindly cooperate by making use of alternative ferry routes and making travel arrangements ahead of time. The Lagos State Government appreciates your patience and understanding as we work together to deliver this historic world championship.”
