Erling Haaland has emerged as the leading scorer in the Premier League for the 2025/26 season, winning a third Golden Boot in four seasons at Manchester City on Sunday.

Haaland was left out of the City squad for a 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa as City marked Pep Guardiola’s 10-year spell in charge in his final match as manager of the club.

The Norwegian striker scored 27 goals in 35 league appearances as City fell short in their push to deny Arsenal the Premier League title.

Haaland now joins Alan Shearer and Harry Kane as three-time winners of the Golden Boot and remains behind Mohamed Salah and Thierry Henry as the only players to have won it four times in the Premier League era.

Brentford’s Igor Thiago finished second on the scoring chart with 22 goals, a return that earned him a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad.

Haaland started the season strongly, scoring 19 of his league goals in the opening 17 matches.

His form underpinned City’s campaign, although a lean spell around mid-season proved costly. He scored once, from the penalty spot against Brighton, in seven matches around that period, with City winning only twice.

He returned to form late in the season, scoring decisive goals away to Liverpool and against Arsenal in a key fixture in the title race.

However, despite finding the net in both matches, City dropped points against Everton and Bournemouth, allowing Arsenal to secure the title for the first time in 22 years.
