Rajevac resigns as Algeria coach after Cameroon draw

The former Ghana and Qatar handler has sensationally walked away from the Desert Warriors two days after playing a draw against the Indomitable Lions

Milovan Rajevac has resigned as Algeria’s coach just two days after the north African team were held 1-1 by Cameroon in their opening 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier.

The Desert Warriors took the lead in the seventh minute through El Arbi Hillel Soudan, before Benjamin Moukandjo rifled past Rais M’Bolhi to level the contest in Blida.

The Algerian Football Federation had confirmed on Tuesday that the ex-Ghana coach threw in the towel, releasing an official statement on their website.

“Mr. Milovan Rajevac resigned today, Tuesday, October 11, 2016 from the post of national coach of the Algeria team.”

Rajevac who led the Black Stars to the quarter final of the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa, was appointed on June 27, 2016 with the task to lead the north African team to the semi-final of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nation and also pick up a qualification ticket for the 2018 World Cup billed for Russia.

Speculation has suggested the 62-year-old’s decision to step down as coach could be as a result of the players openly criticising him after the draw against the Indomitable Lions.

Algeria face Nigeria in their next qualifier on November with the ambition of rescuing their World Cup ambition.
