USA Wins Fourth Women's World Cup Title, Outlasts Netherlands in Final

Megan Rapinoe says the USA team do not want to visit the White House after their World Cup victory, but are yet to receive an official invitation from Donald Trump.

The US President reacted furiously to Rapinoe’s pre-tournament comments and insisted he would invite the team, but appeared to back track on that promise this week.

“We haven’t really thought about it,’ was Trump’s response when asked about the invitation, and Rapinoe has confirmed the World Champions have no intention of going to the White.

“We don’t want to go to the White House, so I figure that’s why the invitation hasn’t come,” the 33-year-old told reporters.

“Maybe he sent it by mail and it’s just sort of, slow to get here.”

Rapinoe staged a peaceful protest during the World Cup, refusing the sing her national anthem amid a growing resistance to Trump’s presidency.

The USA star, who won the Golden Boot and the best player award at the World Cup, is a vocal critic of Trump and his policies in America.

Senate minority leader and democrat Chuck Schumer invited the women’s team to the upper chamber. Rapinoe replied: “We’re very happy to accept your invitation to come.”

The USA’s triumph in France is their fourth World Cup and their second in a row, with Rapinoe and rising star Rose Lavelle scoring the crucial goals against the Netherlands in the final.

The US set a new record for goals scored (26) in a single tournament, with 13 of those coming against Thailand in another record-breaking victory.
