Real arrogant on Lopetegui signing ―Capello

Fabio Capello believes that Spain made a mistake in sacking Julen Lopetegui but also felt that Real Madrid was arrogant in the way they moved for the coach behind the federation’s back.

The Italian, who coached Madrid in 1996/97 and 2006/07 was speaking to Italian radio, were he also commented on Lionel Messi’s disappointing game for Argentina.

“I’d like to get behind Fernando Hierro who was one of my players but I think Spain were wrong to get rid of Lopetegui, you don’t do it like that,” he said.

“Real Madrid were arrogant to speak to the coach without telling the federation but we know how Florentino Perez is and the federation was wrong to sack the coach.

Messi missed a penalty as Argentina drew their opening World Cup match against Iceland.

“After missing the penalty, Argentina’s play worsened and Messi could not do what he normally does for Barcelona. Argentina do not have the Barcelona midfield, they are too slow and predictable,” continued Capello.

“The mistake was too look too much for Messi to score after the penalty miss. Messi did not look in great form but hopefully we are only just starting.”

Neymar also struggled in his first game with Brazil who drew with Switzerland, he was playing after returning from injury which saw him miss the end of the season.

“He has a turn of pace but he didn’t shine and looked to be worried about his foot,” said Capello, who feels it is too soon to compare him to the greats.

“Pele, Maradona and also Messi are from another planet. Pele led his team, created goals, gave assists and this is something completely different.”
