Real Madrid have called for the immediate resignation of La Liga president, Javier Tebas, after he compared the club’s management and its in-house television channel to propaganda techniques used by Nazi Germany’s propaganda chief, Joseph Goebbels.
The Spanish club described Tebas’ comments as “deeply offensive” and “morally repugnant”, demanding that he step down as both La Liga president and vice-president of the Spanish Football Association (RFEF).
In a statement, Real Madrid said it was “absolutely intolerable and extraordinarily serious” for someone holding two senior positions in Spanish football to draw comparisons between the club’s management and the propaganda methods of the Nazi regime.
Tebas made the remarks in a lengthy post on X on Friday, criticising Real Madrid’s communication strategy and the content published by Real Madrid TV.
“Real Madrid’s management directs an orchestra of mouthpieces and Real Madrid TV leads the singing,” he wrote.

“Their score is always the same: select the plays that suit them, repeat the grievance, feed the suspicion, and point fingers at the enemies.”
Tebas said the approach recalled propaganda mechanisms exploited by Goebbels, who served as Nazi Germany’s minister of propaganda, including systematic repetition, the construction of an enemy and the subordination of facts to a preferred narrative.
He later clarified that he was comparing the club’s communication methods with “those propaganda techniques”, not with Nazi ideology.
Real Madrid rejected the explanation, saying it did not lessen what it described as the “institutionally unworthy nature” of his statements.
The club added that the comments were another episode in what it called Tebas’ repeated attacks against Real Madrid, its president, Florentino Perez, and its media outlets.
Last month, Tebas criticised Real Madrid over the club’s claim that there was a refereeing conspiracy against it.
He has also opposed the club’s position on the proposed European Super League, which Real Madrid and Perez supported in 2021.
In 2025, Tebas said Real Madrid had “lost their head” after the club sent a formal letter of complaint to the RFEF over refereeing in La Liga.
