Real Madrid slaps €750m price-tag on Luka Modric

Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez has slapped a huge price tag on Luka Modric and no one can tell if he’s joking or not.

The midfielder is now arguably the best player in the Real Madrid squad, following Cristiano Ronaldo’s sensational big money move to Juventus for £100 million.

But this hasn’t stopped the likes of Inter Milan making thei interest of the former Tottenham Hotspur player known, with the Italian side hoping to enjoy a good Champions League campaign next season with a stronger squad.

But Perez has seemingly put a stop to all that by slapping this massive price-tag on the player.

“The only possibility that Modric leaves is by paying €750 million,” Perez told reporters, as per Goal.

It’s an amount that is essentially unreachable by any club, even in today’s crazy world of football transfers. The spending in the Premier League alone has already surpassed £100 million, and there’s another week to go yet.

Modric’s contract runs until 2020 but his performance at the World Cup in Russia, where he helped the nation reach a place in the final, hasn’t gone unnoticed and now lots of sizeable clubs.

Crazy sums in football have come at a time where TV money is being paid to clubs. Just staying up in the Premier League results in a club receiving over £100 million every year. It makes relegation all the more terrible.

But even with this in mind, talk of spending this much – €750 million – is still some way off. Who knows, maybe in ten years or so we’ll have the very first billion pound transfer.
