Real Madrid: We want to start 2026 well – Alonso

Real Madrid manager, Xabi Alonso, wants to end the year on a high morale with a win over Sevilla on Saturday to put pressure on league leader Barcelona ahead of the new year.

Recall Real Madrid were leading with five clear points before the form diminished in November. They lost a home game against Celta Vigo with three league draws, allowing Barcelona to surge four points ahead in the title race.

However, Madrid has shown a sign of turnaround with two wins in their last three matches. Alonso wants to maintain the momentum, going into the Christmas break on a positive note.

“We want to finish well, it’s been a tough and difficult period. We want to start 2026 well,” Alonso told reporters in a press conference.

He further said, “The opposition is tough, they demand a lot, they play one-on-one situations, the players go for tackles a lot. They’re good with the ball. We want people to enjoy themselves.”

Alonso added that he was on good terms with the management. “From the outset, we have had a close relationship, based on respect and affection. The demands are high. It is a long road, there will be good times and not so good times,” he said.
