Leicester City has appointed Enzo Maresca, the assistant coach of treble-winning Manchester City, as their manager on a contract that extends until 2026.
The 43-year-old Italian joins the Foxes just six days after Manchester City’s triumph in the Champions League final. Maresca takes over from interim boss Dean Smith, who had a disappointing tenure with only two victories in eight games in an unsuccessful attempt to keep Leicester in the Premier League.
Expressing his excitement about the new role, Maresca said, “We have a big season ahead of us. At the beginning, the target is to play in the best way we can. From there, we can build, day by day, our idea and our philosophy, and the most important thing is to try to win games. First of all, we’re going to give 100%, absolutely because the club deserves this.”

Leicester City also confirmed that Dean Smith’s contract will not be renewed when it expires at the end of the month, and his assistant Craig Shakespeare and coach John Terry will also be departing.

Maresca’s move to the King Power Stadium concludes a highly successful year as part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City. He previously had a stint as their under-23s boss. Although he had a short and unsuccessful tenure as Parma manager in 2021, Maresca brings valuable experience and knowledge to Leicester City.
After a disappointing campaign that led to relegation, Leicester finds themselves back in the Championship for the first time in a decade. They aim to rebuild and regain their position in the Premier League.
Maresca will lead his first training session with the team on July 3rd, as the club looks to recapture the success they experienced during their remarkable journey, including winning the Premier League title in 2016, reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League, winning the FA Cup, and making it to the semi-finals of a European competition in 2022.
