Rivers wheelchair tennis player Kemi create upset

 The tennis court of the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium was thrown into wild jubilation when an upset was created by Oluwasegun Kemi of Rivers State.
Kemi, an unseeded wheelchair tennis player defeated the defending champion and festival favourite, Omisore Kafayat, of Delta State by 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 sets to win her first ever gold medal.

An elated Kemi who could not hide her emotions was on tears of joy while speaking with Tribunesport dedicated the victory to God and attributed the success to hard work.

According to her, “I gave God the glory for this feat and I will also say that it was the result of hard work because I had been trying seriously for today and I thank God crowning my effort with success” she said.

Also, Lagos state Karate Team won three bronze medals in the Karate category. Peace Ogunshakin won bronze in -55kg Kumite and Atere Emmanuel in -84kg picked bronze while team karate comprises of Oyaberu Nurudeen, Charles Obodo, Adam’s Muyideen, Effe Etu and Atere Emmanuel also won bronze medal losing by a point to Delta State.

In the Basketball Male category, Lagos state has set up a final duel with Kano State today having defeated the host state Edo 57-45 points in the semi final match played at UNIBEN sports complex.

Lagos football team both male and female are through to the final. The female team defeated Kaduna 4-0, while the male sent packing FCT team by 3-0 to book a place in the final.

The finals will now between the host city, Edo against Lagos both male and female football tomorrow by 12pm
Meanwhile, Hemery Calvin of Delta is through to the final of male tennis event with 6-1, victory over Micheal Chima in the semi final.
