Rohr delighted Aina, Akpom want to be part of Super Eagles

Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has praised the work done by the coaching staff since he took over at the helm of the Nigerian national team.

The German tactician has pointed out that a couple of promising foreign-born players in the shape of Chelsea defender Ola Aina, Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom and QPR starlet Ebere Eze are beginning to show interest in the Super Eagles because of their recent success.

Nigeria were busy during the international break, playing against Senegal at the Hive Stadium and a second test game with Burkina Faso on Monday was cancelled after they failed to obtain visas.

“You must look at the situation when we learnt that the second friendly match against Burkina Faso was cancelled. In most other teams, players would start to leave, when there are no more matches to play, ” Rohr told thenff.com.

“But in our case, not one single player chose to leave. Rather, more players were coming. We had new, young and hungry players arriving to join us.

“It is a sign that the word is going round on the big effort of the staff, the fact that we are getting results and many players now want to be a part of it.”

The Super Eagles will return to action in June when they face South Africa in an African Cup of Nations qualifier, their first competitive game of 2017.
