Ronaldo will not make a deal with Spanish tax office despite running the risk of jail time

On Monday, Cristiano Ronaldo will appear in front of a judge in order to testify over allegedly evading €14.7m in tax. Despite the seriousness of these allegations, ‘AS’ reports that the Portuguese is calm about the situation.

The aforementioned souce claims that Ronaldo’s legal team is convinced that the 32-year-old’s financial dealings were done in good faith and with no criminal intent. As a result, Ronaldo is not willing to accept any deal offered to him by the Spanish tax office, including paying what he allegedly owes in order to close the case.

“Cristiano is staying strong and he is prepared to go all the way, even as far as taking the state to trial in order to prove his innocence. He will not make a deal not even under the threat or risk of going to prison” a source close to the player told ‘AS’.

As such, Ronaldo has made it clear that he is not afraid of any possible sanction, be it financial or criminal. The player is convinced that he will be found not guilty in the eyes of the law and will follow that strategy until the bitter end.
