Ronaldo’s fraud case increases to 15 million

THE day after Messi’s 21-month prison sentence was announced, ‘Football leaks’ has revealed that Ronaldo’s debt to the Spanish treasury would amount to 15 million euros.

Spanish program ‘El Larguero’ recently reported that Ronaldo allegedly evaded 8 million in taxes, but it looks like the information fell short, after ‘Football Leaks’ revealed that, between the years of 2011 and 2014, Cristiano Ronaldo defrauded 15 million euros.

The Tax Office are under the impression that, aside from the 5,6 million euros he did contribute, he should have paid a further 15 million. Therefore, the amount declared to the Spanish treasury was just over 25% of what it should have been.

However, there are variations that will determine Ronaldo’s eventual sentence, once he is called to stand in court. Under the ‘Beckham Law’, the Portuguese striker paid 24,75% tax for several years, and sold his rights with that percentage of tax one day before that type of remuneration, which would exert a mitigating effect.

According to Spanish publication ‘El Mundo’, starting now, the ‘Caso Cristiano’ (as they are calling it in Spain) will move forward. The next step will see the Madrid man in court. After that, two possible outcomes: a penal sanction (payment of 15 million euros and a prison sentence that could go up to 22 months) or and administrative sanction (payment of 15 million euros, plus a strong fine proportionate to the amount evaded).
