Gernot Rohr says the weapon of Nigeria’s Super Eagles is fearlessness as he expects his team to emerge one of the surprises of the Russia 2018 World Cup.
Rohr is leading the Eagles out on their sixth World Cup appearance next summer and when asked by Telefoot in Casablanca on Sunday night when his team would be ready for the Mundial, the trainer said: ”If you mount the stage for the World Cup now, I have a team ready. Psychologically, I have the players wanting to play, wanting to help, and wanting to win. We have been on this for quite a while, so we are built to spring surprises.”
Rohr added that the Eagles fear no team and are always shaping for challenges.
”They are players who play for the team, I have never worked a player in the Super Eagles who wants the team to play for him. They are spartans in team spirits and the major factor going for them is that they do not play with fear, they are always good to go”.
Rohr said a lot had been said of group opponents-Argentina, Croatia and Iceland, what is left is to look forward to the championship with hope.
”We do not need any reminder that we are in a tough group where only two have the chance of a second round, we are full of hope that we are going to be one of the two”
On Sunday’s CHAN 4-0 loss by Nigeria’s Home Based Eagles to their Moroccan counterparts, Rohr said the team caved in at the final stage.
”Many things could be responsible for the loss but it is obvious to the players that that was not their best performance. I knew it was not going to be easy beating Morocco at the final yet we didn’t expect this result. It is still a learning process for every one of them.”
