Harry Kane, England captain
Tottenham Hotspurs coach, Mauricio Pochettino was just as impressed as most of us were with Harry Kane’s brace against Tunisia in England’s World Cup opener on Monday.
England’s World Cup campaign got off to a slightly underwhelming but successful start as they edged past Tunisia on a scoreline of 2-1.
For a game that really should have been an easy night for the English, Tunisia had far more joy on the ball than perhaps anyone would have predicted and it took a late goal from striker Harry Kane to avoid giving the underdogs a share of the points on offer.
Kane has seemingly carried his scintillating run of form this season from Tottenham to his international side and with two goals now under his belt on the world biggest stage, many are expecting him to have a critical role in England’s hopes of achieving their first World Cup trophy since 1966.

His manager at club-level, Mauricio Pochettino, spoke about Kane’s passion in the England shirt, likening him to the legendary Diego Maradona for his ability to turn it up when needed.
“I think of Diego Maradona, Ossie Ardiles, players like this, who I know loved being away with their country.
“It is something special and Harry has created that with England. He loves Tottenham – but he has a real passion with England also.
“Harry loves going with the national team. I can see the players are starting to feel this connection with England.
“It doesn’t always happen — but it is happening with this group of players. They have the passion for it.”
England’s next outing will see them face opposition they once again will be favoured to beat in the form of Panama on Sunday and with the final matchup against Belgium to come – do not be surprised to see manager Gareth Southgate mix it up as far as his team selection is concerned.
