Sadio Mane lifts lid on how good Liverpool hero Ben Woodburn really is

SADIO MANE is predicting big things for Liverpool’s record breaking starlet Ben Woodburn.

The academy graduate became the Reds’ youngster ever goalscorer after netting against Leeds last night at the age of just 17 years and 45 days.

The vital goal, which beat Michael Owen’s previous record by 98 days, helped secure Liverpool’s 2-0 EFL Cup victory and a place in the semi-finals.

And Mane has certainly been impressed by the highly-rated teenager, saying: “I want to congratulate him.

“He is a very good player and has a very good future.

“I hope he will keep going and working hard and I think he will be a great player.

“Everyone was happy for him to score his first goal, especially in a big atmosphere at Anfield.”

Woodburn, who made his senior debut in the 2-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday, came off the bench to have an impact at Anfield last night.

Other youngsters Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ovie Ejaria were also stand-out players against Garry Monk’s Championship side.

Mane believes Liverpool’s up-and-coming talents have added an extra dimension to their squad.

He added: “We have a great team this season and all the young players are playing confidently and are doing well and the game will become easier for them.

“I think they will help the team to move up.”

Liverpool, currently second in the Premier League table, make the trip to Bournemouth on Sunday.
