Sadiq Ajibola wins IGC Captain’s Day golf tournament

A member of Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Sadiq Ajibola, on Saturday emerged champion of the IGC Captain’s Day golf tournament held in celebration of the successful tenure of the club’s Captain, Mr Seyi Alaba.

The one-day tournament, tagged ‘Alabama Bows Out’, attracted top golfers within the club and outside the country who competed fiercely for honours.

Ajibola, Chief Executive Officer of Quedoos Construction Multiconcept Limited, clinched the top prize after returning a score of 82 Gross and 69 Net, edging out Daniel Ojuma, who finished second with 85 Gross and 69 Net.

Mr Ade Sunmonu won the Men’s Gross prize, while Sade Ajala claimed the Ladies’ Net title with a score of 86 Gross and 72 Net.

Speaking after receiving his prize, Ajibola attributed his victory to hard work and focus.“Winning the IGC Captain’s Day tournament is truly special for me, especially as it is held in honour of a captain who has given so much to the club. It was a competitive round, and I stayed focused from the first tee to the 18th hole.

“I dedicate this victory to hard work, consistency, and the support of my fellow members. I also commend Mr Seyi Alaba for his remarkable leadership and wish him the very best as he bows out.

“His tenure has positively impacted the club, and we are all proud of the legacy he leaves behind,” he said.

In his remarks, the outgoing Captain, Mr Alaba, applauded members of the club for giving him the opportunity to serve, noting that their support, encouragement, and camaraderie made his journey unforgettable.

“As Captain of Ibadan Golf Club, I focused on driving progress and excellence with my executive team, enhancing the club’s public image and rebranding efforts, as well as driving quality membership growth and development.

“We upgraded course maintenance, equipment, and facilities, improved the clubhouse and overall amenities, and boosted member participation and engagement.

“As I bow out as Captain on April 1, 2026, I leave behind a legacy of excellence that I am confident will continue to inspire future generations of golfers. I have given my best, and I am proud of what we have achieved together.

“To my Excos, past and present, thank you for your tireless efforts and commitment. To my supporters and fellow Captains from other clubs, I deeply appreciate your trust and collaboration throughout my tenure,” Alaba stated.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Barrister Bayo Titilola-Sodo, described Alaba as a visionary leader with remarkable accomplishments.

Sodo, who is the Second Vice Captain of the club, said: “Mr Alaba is a Captain who put in everything and more to improve our course from Hole 1 to 18 and even our Hole 19. He worked with utmost zeal to achieve his vision for the club, displaying the attributes of a great leader — focused, vibrant, resilient, innovative, decisive, trustworthy, strategic, empathetic, and above all, accountable.”
