LA LIGA

“Save some for Argentina, Leo!”

The Argentinian press have been quick to comment on Lionel Messi’s sensational recent form, telling the star to keep something in the tank for his national side.

The diminutive wizard continued his fine start to the season on Tuesday night by finding the net four times in Barca’s 6-1 triumph over Eibar.

The goals took Messi well clear of Simone Zaza as La Liga’s top scorer with nine strikes in just five league games so far this season. His performances have led to adulation in his homeland, as is expected, but the press have also issued the forward a warning, slow down!

Argentine newspaper ‘Olé’ reported “Four goals in Barca’s 6-1 thrashing of Eibar and Sampaoli was at the Camp Nou to see the game live. ‘The Flea’ now has nine goals in just five games in La Liga so far this season. Save some for the national team you little genius.”

Fellow publication ‘La Nación’ went with this: ‘Lionel Messi doesn’t stop. When it seems that there is nothing else he can do to surprise you he manages to outdo himself time and again with Barca the grateful recipients.”

Finally, the international media were equally as full of praise for Messi, with ‘ESPN’ saying: “Messi dazzles whatever the situation, even when there is no need for him to put on a show, he is took good not to”.

Can Messi keep up his incredible early-season form?
