New Schalke coach Domenico Tedesco (left) and Hoffenheim's Julian Nagelsmann were awarded their Uefa Pro Coaching Course certificates together in March 2016
After Schalke failed to qualify for Europe this season the club cast an envious eye at the spectacular relegation escape act carried out by 31-year-old Domenico Tedesco at second flight Erzgebirge Aue.
The 31-year-old passed his UEFA coaching badges in 2016 with maximum possible marks and took over Erzgebirge with 11 games to go garnering an average 1.82 points per game to dig them out of a hole and finish three points above the drop zone.
The former amateur footballer with a degree in civil engineering has been given a two year contract by Schalke who finished tenth in the Bundesliga last season.
