SERIE A: Inter Milan stumble in title race following 1-0 loss to Bologna

Inter Milan suffered a 1-0 defeat against Bologna on Sunday in a toothless attacking display that saw them fail to score from four shots on target.

Riccardo Orsolini scored the only goal of the match in the 76th minute, giving the hosts all three points.

The Nerazzurri’s already slim title hopes took another hit, and catching up to the runaway leaders Napoli now appears highly unlikely, as they have an 18-point deficit to overturn. Inter may need to focus on fending off the likes of Roma and Milan for the second spot.

Bologna thought they had taken the lead after 12 minutes through a well-taken finish from Musa Barrow, but the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) ruled the offside Nicolas Dominguez as having blocked Andre Onana’s view.

The hosts continued to pose a threat as Roberto Soriano hit the crossbar, while Lautaro Martinez squandered a free header wide of the post. The game went into the break goalless with few clear-cut chances for both teams.

Shortly after the interval, Hakan Calhanoglu missed a glorious opportunity, blazing over from a promising position. Soriano then had a shot blocked, and Edin Dzeko came off the bench to force a decent save out of Lukasz Skorupski.

However, the deadlock was eventually broken in the 76th minute when Orsolini latched onto Jerdy Schouten’s through ball and scored his fourth goal in five matches to secure an impressive victory for Bologna.
