Seyi Makinde Women Support Pro-invitational, amateur Golf tournament tee-off today

The sixth Seyi Makinde Women Support Pro-invitational, amateur Golf tournament teed off on Thursday at the Ibadan Golf Club (IGC), Onireke, Ibadan.

The tournament was aimed to promote the game of golf and encourage the younger ones to play the game.

According to the Captain of the Club,  Ola Ibironke said the tournament has nothing to do with politics  saying this is the sixth edition which is going to attract over 150 golfers both Professionals and amateur golfers.

Ibironke, popularly known as Dudu Heritage  lauded the contributions of governor Makinde towards development of golfer and other sports.

He said Makinde has been sponsoring the tournament even before becoming the governor of the state adding, the tournament is now getting better every year.

“In terms of development support, Governor Makinde has contributed a lot in cash and kind to the development of IGC, that I know, ever before becoming a governor.

“Aside from sponsoring the Women’s Support Golf tournament which is an annual event and has run for five editions now and the last edition he did was an Open tournament, where professional golfers came from all over the country to participate in. It cost a lot of money, He did not sponsor this pro tournament as governor but as Engineer Seyi Makinde.

Initiator of the tournament, Mrs Ronke Adepetu said the aim of the competition was to support Makinde for his love for sports saying “We initiated the championship in 2015 to support Makinde’s gesture for women in the state.

“Makinde is a lover of sports. He is a philanthropist, golfer and has always supported sports development in all ramifications.

“I must thank the governor for his endless support towards golf development,” Adepetu said.

The tournament is expected to bring together captains of industries and notable personalities to IGC.

Welcome dinner is expected to be held on Friday, May 28 at 7pm while the tee-off ceremony is scheduled for Saturday at 6:30am and the closing ceremony will hold on Sunday at 5pm.
