Shooting Stars Izu Joseph passed on, Sunday night. He was shot dead.
sportingtribune.com authoritatively gathered that the footballer was shot in his home town in Bayelsa State.
The central defender, who was on holiday in his village, died before he could get to the hospital.
Confirming this tragic killing was the General Manager of Shooting Stars Sports Club, Rasheed Balogun, while speaking with sportingtribune.com.
He said he had spoken to the father of the player who had earlier spoken with the head coach of the team, Gbenga Ogunbote.
The management of the club prayed that God will give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
Balogun. however, described the death as a rude shock to him and to the team saying that the player was an important member of the team and that he will be missed greatly.
Also, the the media officer of the 3SC, Jubril Arowolo, said it was a sad news that 3SC has lost one of its best defenders.
“The news came as a shock to us around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday that Izu Joseph was shot by gunmen, though we are yet to get details from the family, hopefully we will make an official statement once we get across to his family later in the day,” Arowolo told sportingtribune.com on Monday morning.
Izu played a major role in 3SC’s outing in the just ended Nigeria Professional Football League season and was accountable for his side’s last minute winner against Nasarawa FC in a match day 24 fixture that ended 2-1 in favour of the Oluyole Warriors.
