Shorunmu refutes lack of desire claims for Super Eagles camp

Ike Shorunmu, Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, has responded to the Nigerian Football Federation’s (NFF) claims over his absence from the team’s camp for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau on Friday.

Shorunmu has refuted the NFF’s statement, stating that they misled Nigerians about his absence.

The NFF had in a statement released by Communications Director, Ademola Olajire accused had singled out Shorunmu for criticism, stating that he didn’t show a desire to be in the Super Eagles training camp for the Guinea Bissau clash.

“It’s easy for the NFF to say that I didn’t show desire to report to camp because the people at the helm are earning their salaries, while we the assistant coaches are working without contracts since May 2022 and haven’t been paid for months,” Shorunmu hit back.

“We asked for contracts last November after the friendly game against Portugal and they told us that the new NFF board was just elected and that by last December our contract papers would be ready, but as I speak, nothing has been done.

“We asked why Salisu Yusuf and Usman Abdallah were left out of the crew for the game against Portugal. They never told us about any rotation policy and it’s very unfair to say that I showed a lack of desire to join the camp.

“As a professional, they should come out and tell the truth and not telling lies and misinforming Nigerians. Whatever we deserve they should give to us and not colour the truth.
