Slimani boards private jet to Newcastle prepare medical

Islam Slimani has filmed himself boarding a plane on his way to Newcastle.

Slimani is set to join the Toon in a deadline day transfer.

Leicester are happy for the forward to leave as they focus on keeping Riyad Mahrez away from Manchester City’s clutches.

And the 29-year-old is on his way for his Newcastle medical.

The Algeria international posted a video on instagram of him boarding a private jet.

It is understood he has now arrived in the north east and will undergo physical tests before signing his contract.

The player is expected to join on loan until the end of the season.

Newcastle have moved for Slimani, who is currently injured, after failing to meet Feyenoord’s demands for striker Nicolai Jorgensen.

Jorgensen was Rafael Benitez’s first-choice target to replace Aleksandar Mitrovic, who is set to join Anderlecht.

But the Toon refused to meet Feyenoord’s £20m valuation of Denmark international Jorgensen.

Instead, a deal with Slimani should be wrapped up well before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Newcastle are also understood to have agreed a loan deal for goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Dubravka, 29, has been out of the Sparta Prague side this season and is free to leave the Czech club.
