PEP Guardiola will not make an emotional return to Barcelona in any capacity in the future, according to his father.
The Manchester City boss will be back at the Nou Camp today when his side take on Luis Enrique’s men in the Champions League group stage.
But Valenti Guardiola says his son’s time with Barca has ‘come and gone’ and he does not believe the 45-year-old will rejoin the Spanish champions.
Speaking to radio station Cadena Ser, Guardiola Snr said: ‘Return to Barcelona? To do what, work as a ball boy?
“I really don’t see him there either as president or on the bench. His time with Barca has come and gone, I don’t think he would do well in going back.
“At the very least, I think we can rule out him coming back as coach.”
Guardiola enjoyed four hugely successful years as Barcelona manager, winning La Liga three times and the Champions League twice.
However, his father thinks a return to Spain would only be on the cards if Catalonia manage to gain independence.
‘I would say he could take the Catalan national team, but I can’t see him in Spain,’ Valenti added.
‘I’m not just saying that, I have nothing against anyone. Everyone is free to think what they want.
‘I don’t know what he will do, who am I to say what he should do?’
