Sone Aluko strikes as Fulham beat Barnsley

The Nigeria forward hit his third goal of the campaign as the Cottagers won 4-2

Sone Aluko hit his second goal of the season as Fulham outclassed Barnsley in Championship action on Saturday.

The Nigeria international hit a fine finish in the 42nd minute to ensure the Cottagers went into the break level after goals from Marley Watkins and Sam Winnall had come either side of a goal from Chelsea loanee Lucas Piazon.

Fulham’s class told at the beginning of the second half as they pulled clear with goals from Scott Malone and Chris Martin, before a red card for the Tykes’ Josh Scowen rounded off a miserable afternoon for the Yorkshiremen.

The win—the Londoners’ first at Barnsley since 1970—arrested a remarkable slump for Fulham, who had won just one of their previous nine matches and tumbled down the table.

“After a very bad September we started after the international break with victory, that’s very important for us,” Fulham coach Slavisa Jokanovic told BBC Sport.

“We are a team unbeaten away, but our problem is at home,” he added. “We come under pressure and we are not as comfortable without the ball as we are away from Craven Cottage.

“We showed great ambition and good character after the poor start, we showed enough desire.

“We need to improve ourselves at home. We offer good afternoons for our away fans, now we need to do it at Craven Cottage.”

As well as a previous strike in the away win against Preston North End, Aluko also contributed two assists as Fulham held Cardiff City 2-2 at home in August.
