The South-West Football Forum in Nigeria has set the machinery in motion to introduce Odua Football League, as part of its commitment to develop football in the geo-political zone.
Speaking with Tribunesport on Saturday after the meeting of the zone’s major stakeholders held at Orchard Hotel, Ibadan, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi who is also the vice president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), expressed optimism that the zone would produce the best legs for the country at various levels in no distant time.
Akinwunmi said that the meeting agreed on introducing ‘Odua Football League’ with the sole aim of discovering talents that would make the nation proud in future.
“The journey started in Abeokuta where issues concerning the growth of football were discussed at high level with south-west governors in attendance and it was agreed that the zone must take the development of football at the grass roots with all seriousness and we are on the right track,” said the Lagos State FA chairman.
Akinwunmi further disclosed that the Forum also gave Mr Dapo Ajibade, former Chairman of Sunshine Stars and former ODSFA boss, Mr Akin Akinbobola, the mandate to drive the proposed ‘Odua
Football League’ and the activities of the Forum for now.
