This prestigious award recognises Olusanya’s significant contributions to the Nigerian sports community, particularly through his advocacy and educational initiatives in sports governance.
The SWAN awards given by its various state chapters across Nigeria to deserving stakeholders in sports is known for their credibility, reflecting the organisation’s commitment to promoting excellence in sports journalism and development, including their achievements in securing Nigeria’s journalists accreditation for major international sporting events such as the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup.
This year SWAN’s focus is on granting awards to individuals with demonstrable impact on sports development, advocacy for sports governance, and educational initiatives that benefit the sports community. This year’s selection process was rigorous, ensuring that only the most deserving candidates were honoured. Adedotun Olusanya Esq. was chosen for his pioneering efforts in educating soccer academics and administrators on FIFA Governance Statutes and Regulations across West Africa, especially in Nigeria and Ghana with virtual attendance from Gambia, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

He has delivered Sports Governance seminars for Gbagada FC and Star Makers FC, both soccer academies in Nigeria and Ghana respectively, focused on protecting young players especially the prevention of human trafficking of young footballers.
In this edition of the awards, a total of ten distinguished individuals were honoured for their outstanding contributions to sports development. These awardees were selected from a competitive pool of over fifty nominees, each evaluated based on their impact, leadership, and dedication to advancing sports in Nigeria. However, the awards are limited to individuals who have shown consistent commitment over several years. From his early years in Nigeria, Adedotun Olusanya Esq has impacted the Nigerian sports community by serving as an expert analyst on educative sports shows to leading seminars and training on FIFA laws to amateur sports academies in the Country. His contribution drew attention from Neighboring West African countries where he has been leading various seminars and training, especially for FA-licensed soccer academies.
Olusanya’s receipt of the award underscores his tireless efforts and dedication to the field of sports law. His work has had a profound impact on the Nigerian sports industry, from advising the Nigerian Football Federation to organising training for State Sports Councils including Oyo and Ogun State. His well-known legal works on sports broadcast rights and sports governance have become essential educative material within the West African sports community. This acknowledgement from SWAN applauds Olusanya’s contributions while encouraging other sports professionals to pursue excellence and promote the advancement of sports in Nigeria.
