Sports minister hails Temitope Adesina’s historic high jump achievement

Minister of Sports, John Enoh has hailed Nigerian athlete, Temitope Adeshina for making history as the first Nigerian woman to clear a height of 1.97 meters in the high jump, securing her spot in the Olympics.

Her remarkable feat garners widespread acclaim, highlighting the nation’s prowess in track and field and the importance of strong coaching and support.

The minister congratulated Adeshina in a statement on his X account.

“Congratulations Temitokpe Adeshina on becoming the 1st Nigerian woman to scale a height of 1.97m and you will be the first athlete to represent Nigeria in the high jump at the Olympics since 2016. We are proud of you!
Congratulations!” the minister said.

Adeshina etched her name in Nigerian sports history by becoming the first Nigerian woman to clear a height of 1.97 meters in the high jump, a feat that qualifies her to represent Nigeria in the Olympics.
