Tottenham Hotspur have secured the signing of English midfielder James Maddison from Leicester City on a five-year contract for £40m.
His impressive performances helped Leicester City secure their first-ever FA Cup title in 2021, while also earning him three caps for the England national team.
Having made 203 appearances for Leicester since his arrival from Norwich City in 2018, Maddison has showcased his abilities on the field. While he contributed 10 goals in the Premier League last season, unfortunately, he couldn’t prevent Leicester from suffering relegation. Nonetheless, his individual performance and creative contributions stood out, as he registered 55 goals and provided 41 assists during his time at Leicester.

Maddison’s arrival at Tottenham brings much-needed creativity and playmaking skills to the squad. Since the departure of Christian Eriksen in 2020, Spurs have lacked a top-class playmaker, and Maddison’s arrival aims to fill that void. Despite previous interest from Newcastle, who have now turned their attention to AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali, Maddison has ultimately chosen to join Tottenham.
In addition to Maddison, Tottenham recently acquired Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli. They have also secured the permanent signing of Swedish midfielder Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus, following the appointment of new manager Ange Postecoglou. Amidst these signings, Tottenham’s priority remains holding on to England forward Harry Kane, as Bayern Munich continues to show interest and is expected to make an improved offer for the 29-year-old.
Maddison’s transfer is part of Leicester City’s exodus following their relegation to the Championship. Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans has already agreed to join Aston Villa on a free transfer.
Leicester will commence the upcoming season in the second tier, facing local rivals Coventry City in their opening game.
