The stage is set for the maiden edition of the Ibadan Marathon 2024 scheduled for Saturday, November 2 at the ancient city of Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
The organiser hinted that the main objective of the programme is promote the rich cultural heritage of the city, foster local businesses, create job opportunities, strengthen community service and solidify foreign relationship.
Speaking at the press briefing herald the programme, the Chief Executive Officer of Savvy Events, Arinola Idowu said the marathon is positioned to celebrate the vibrant city spirit, strength, and unity of iconicstate and home to many first.
She said Ibadan marathon is a master plan by the Oyo State Government and Savvy Events to position Oyo State as a contemporary sport, commerce and entertainment hub.
She hinted that the event aligns with the agenda of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration on key areas such as infrastructural development, youth empowerment and social welfare.
Arinola said the interested participants can pick up hard copy registration form at the athletics office of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba for free.
Winner of the Elite Runners, male and female $10,000, $8,000 (second) $6,000 (third), $4,000 (fourth) and $2,000 for fifth position.
Winner of the Nigerian Runners male and female will received N3 million while the second will go home with N2million. Third, fourth and fifth will smile home with N1.5million, N1.2million and N1million

The Ibadan marathon is the maiden edition of a proposed annual event that features 42.195km and 10km fun race.
“The race route has been measured and calibrated by grade A measurer, Norrie Williamson and certified by World Athletics.
The race route is an interesting adventure, cutting through monumental sights and sounds of the ancient but upwardly mobile city of Ibadan
“Race day is Saturday November 2, at 7am for the 42.195km and 10am for the 10km fun race. Both races will end at the Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba as finish line.
In her remarks, Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke said the state is happy to partner with the organizer of the project.
She said the initiative is not only aim to promote health and fitness but also to open up local economy and showcase the beauty of Ibadan city.
“The Ibadan Marathon represents an opportunity for runners, families, and spectators to come together in celebration of sportsmanship and community spirit. By investing in this event, our government, under Engineer Seyi Makinde demonstrates a commitment to enhancing public health and encouraging active lifestyles among our citizens.
“Moreover, this marathon will highlight the rich cultural heritage of Ibadan, attracting visitors from across the country and beyond.
