Stars Builders Academy started life in the NLO1 division with a 4-3 win over Almar FC at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State on Saturday.
A brace from Toheeb Lasisi and goals from Ayodele Adeloye and Femi Adetula was enough to give the Ijebu Ode-based team the maximum points on matchday one.
Speaking to the media after the game, the Club’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Ayodeji Adegbenro said it was a good win against a more experienced side.
Adegbenro said “It was a good win for us against a more experienced side. This is our first season in NLO1, and Almar are more experienced than us at this level.
“We actually dominated the game, but they scored from the simple mistakes our defenders made due to their inexperience. Our coaches will correct these lapses before our next game,” he noted.
Asked if the team will be gunning for a third successive promotion, Adegbenro said it is a possibility.
“We’ve had back-to-back promotions in the last two seasons to get here, getting promoted to the NNL might be a big task for us at the moment as we don’t have the funding required to compete at that level.
“However, we will take this season one game at a time and then see where we are at the end of the season.”
