Steven Gerrard says NO to Saudi Pro League offer

Former Rangers boss, Steven Gerrard, has revealed that he has declined an offer to manage in the Saudi Pro League,

The 43-year-old, who has been without a job since being sacked by Aston Villa in October, was reported to have received an offer from Al-Ettifaq after being seen in Saudi Arabia earlier this month.

Gerrard confirmed that he was indeed invited to assess the potential offer but after careful consideration, he has decided not to accept it. Speaking on Channel 4 before England’s Euro 2024 Qualifier against North Macedonia, Gerrard stated that he has been analyzing the offer over the past few days and has come to the decision of declining it.

Gerrard said: ‘I was invited over there to look at a potential offer, which I did.

‘I have been analysing that over the last couple of days. But, as we stand right now, I won’t be taking that offer up.’

During his tenure at Aston Villa, Gerrard managed to secure 13 wins from 40 games in his 11-month spell after joining from Rangers in November 2021.

After retiring from his playing career in 2016, Gerrard began his managerial journey at Rangers in 2018, leading the club to their first Scottish Premiership title in a decade.

The Saudi Pro League has recently attracted high-profile players such as Karim Benzema, who joined Al-Ittihad after leaving Real Madrid, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who signed for Al Nassr in December.

Several Premier League players have also been linked with potential moves to the league in the upcoming transfer window.
