David Moyes’ side claimed an unwanted record on Saturday as they suffered their eighth league defeat of the campaign
It’s official. Following their 4-1 home defeat to Arsenal in Saturday’s early game, Sunderland have now equalled the worst-ever start to a Premier League season.
After falling behind to an Alexis Sanchez strike, the Black Cats did draw level against the Gunners courtesy of a second-half Jermain Defoe penalty.
But further goals from Olivier Giroud (two) and Sanchez condemned David Moyes’ side to their eighth league defeat of the campaign.
It leaves Sunderland rooted to the foot of the table with just two points and only Manchester City in the 1995/96 have ever made such a poor start.
