The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) 2017 season kicks off today with a clash between Sunshine Queens and Ibom Angels, scheduled for the Akure Township Stadium.
Also grouped in the western conference are Bayelsa Queens, Heartland Queens, Abia Angels and FC Robo Queens, while the savannah conference comprises Nasarawa Amazons, Osun Babes, Delta Queens, Confluence Queens, Adamawa Queens, Edo Queens, Pelican Stars and FC Saadatu Kolo Amazons.
However, following the disbandment of COD United Ladies, the players of the disbanded Lagos-based side have been cleared by NWFL to play for any team of their choice in the new season.
“Clubs are free right now to take any players of COD United Ladies for the upcoming 2016/17 NWFL season. We took this decision strictly in the interest of the players who are unfortunate victims of the disbandment,” said NWFL chairperson, Aisha Falode.
