Super Eagles will lift AFCON trophy on Sunday — Seyi Adisa

A former member representing the Afijio state constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Seyi Adisa, who is presently in Ivory Coast to cheer the Super Eagles to victory, has said he’s hopeful that the team will lift the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy for the fourth time on Sunday.

Adisa admitted that Nigeria is going to face a different team than they played in the preliminary round as the Ivorian team are now more coordinated.

The ex-lawmaker, who was among those who watched the match between Nigeria and South Africa on Wednesday in Bouake, said the Super Eagles need the match to put a smile on the faces of Nigerians.

“As we all know, Super Eagles are meeting a totally different side, the same team but a totally different side, their confidence has grown and they have beaten Senegal and gone through tough matches and they have come through, so it’s a much more confident side.

“They also have home advantage, what we call the 12th man and we are going to really feel their presence in the stadium on Sunday.

“But again, I come from the school of thought that if you want to be champion, you have to beat champions and I sincerely know that we have everything it takes, we have a solid defence, conceding few goals, we have a good goalkeeper but finishing has been our biggest challenge but I believe against all odd, our forward, Victor Osimhen will come through on that day.

“It’s going to be a 50-50 game but I do think Nigeria has more than enough to win the match.

“Super Eagles want to impress their nation, fans; they are going to be playing with everything they have on Sunday but then it’s not the first time we played host nation and we are beating them, I believe that spirit of Naija, that strong resilience never say die, don’t gree for anybody spirit is going to work for us on Sunday and that is my hope.”
