Super Falcons forward, Esther Okoronkwo, joins AFC Toronto

Canadian side AFC Toronto have announced the signing of Nigerian forward, Esther Okoronkwo.

The 27-year-old played for Changchun Dazhong in the Chinese Women’s Super League during the 2024 season before moving to Toronto for her next phase.

Okoronkwo began her professional career in France with AS Saint-Étienne.

The gifted forward has played on the biggest platforms, such as the Olympics and FIFA Women’s World Cup, and offers invaluable international experience to AFC Toronto.

AFC Toronto announced her arrival with a message that said, “🇳🇬 Represented Nigeria on the world’s biggest stages—2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup & 2024 Olympic Games.

“Southland Conference Player & Forward of the Year (2020).

“35 goals in 39 matches at Lamar University.

“Pro stints in France with AS Saint-Étienne and Spain’s UD Tenerife.

“From Richmond, Texas, to the global stage, Esther’s journey is a testament to talent and determination.

“Now, she’s set to light up the pitch in Toronto. Welcome, Esther!.”

Since making her debut for the Nigerian Women’s National Team in 2021, Okoronkwo has continued to make an impact.

She was part of the Super Falcons team that advanced to the final four of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Okoronkwo helped the Super Falcons advance to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Round of 16.

She was also selected to participate in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where Nigeria competed in the group stage against Brazil, Spain, and Japan.
