Super Falcons secures WAFCON spot after beating Benin

The Super Falcons have secured their spot at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, defeating the Benin Republic 3-1 on aggregate.

They won the first leg 2-0 in Lome, Togo, and drew the second leg 1-1 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta.

Defender Ashleigh Plumptre scored her first-ever international goal for Nigeria, heading home a corner kick from Esther Okoronkwo in the 12th minute.

Meanwhile, Benin Republic equalised in the 61st minute through Yasminath Djibril’s brilliant free-kick.

The Super Falcons will, however, aim to defend their continental crown at WAFCON 2026, hosted by Morocco from March 17 to April 3, 2026.

Head coach Justine Madugu praised his players for their focus and determination, noting their objective of booking a ticket to Morocco was successfully achieved.

This marks another milestone for the Super Falcons, who have featured in every edition of WAFCON since its inception.
