The recent triumph of Nigeria’s Super Falcons at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) has been hailed as more than a football victory. For image maker Osita Ogbodo, also known as Iam Peculiar, the comeback from a two-goal deficit against host nation Morocco showcase the enduring qualities of the Nigerian brand.
Ogbodo, a communications strategist who has consistently called for a stronger Nigerian brand identity, described the performance of the Super Falcons as a public demonstration of national values. “Kudos to our girls, the Super Falcons who displayed publicly to the world the practical characteristics and the value of an average Nigerian,” he said.
The dramatic match saw Nigeria rally after conceding twice by turning despair into hope and ultimately lifting the trophy for the tenth time since the tournament’s inception in 2008. For Ogbodo, this resilience captures the spirit of the country, and tells a story that transcends sports.
“Coming back from two nil down when it appears that all situations are against them, the average Nigerian spirit and brand story came to play when our ladies came back from two goals down to equalise and to win the cup,” he explained.
He emphasised that the display went beyond physical strength, pointing instead to the intangible unity that Nigerians often find in moments of national significance. According to him, the Super Falcons’ collective determination echoed the unity of purpose Nigerians achieve when working toward a common goal.
“The average Nigerian spirit which does not know who is a Yoruba man, who is a Hausa man, and who is an Igbo man all connected in that struggle, in that determination, and in that never giving up spirit to achieve a common goal,” he noted.
The Super Falcons’ resilience also mirrors a wider narrative about Nigeria’s capacity to rise above adversity. Ogbodo pointed out that the team’s response to pressure symbolises the everyday struggles Nigerians face and overcome despite economic challenges, political uncertainty, and social divides. “Even as our girls all connected together without any tribal or religious distractions and came all the way from two nil down to equalise and make us proud, they displayed the true Nigerian brand story,” he said.
For Ogbodo, the message is clear: Nigeria’s brand is not an abstract slogan, but an expression of character built on determination, hard work, and resilience. By overcoming the odds and securing their tenth WAFCON title, the Super Falcons reminded the world that Nigeria thrives on unity and grit.
“This is one story etched in determination and hard work to win the cup for the 10th time since its inception in 2008,” he stated.
Ogbodo also welcomed the recognition given by President Bola Tinubu to the team. He described the president’s acknowledgement as a vital moment in reinforcing the Nigerian brand. “I appreciate Mr. President so much for recognising and celebrating the spirit of the true Nigerian brand story for the whole world to see,” he remarked.
He expressed hope that this example would inspire both leaders and citizens to embrace and promote the same values in their various spheres of influence. “I hope that this will inspire every other leader and every other person to encourage the true Nigerian brand story which is found in the spirit, determination and resilience of the average Nigerian,” he added.
As the celebrations of the WAFCON victory continue, Ogbodo’s words remind Nigerians to recognise the depth of their collective character. The Super Falcons may have lifted a trophy, but their true achievement, he insists, is showing that persistence, resilience, and hard work remain the foundation of Nigeria’s brand story.
