Nigerian Tribune deputy editor and the immediate past chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo State chapter, Niyi Alebiosu, has been honoured with the Veteran Sports Journalist Award/Award of recognition by the national SWAN under the leadership of Isaiah Benjamin.
The award ceremony, which was held at the VIP Lounge package A of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, on Saturday, attracted the creme de la creme in the sports sector, including the chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, the Director General, Bukola Olopade and other sports stakeholders across Nigeria.
Speaking after the award, Alebiosu dedicated the award to God, saying it would spur him to do more.
He thanked the national SWAN for finding him worthy of the award, which he said he holds in high esteem.
“I dedicate this award to God Almighty, who has been my pillar of strength from day one. It can only be God. In truth, I was not expecting this, and I thank the national SWAN for the award. I cannot but thank the Tribune family for the platform to practice,” Alebiosu said.
Alebiosu was honoured for his commitment, mentorship, passion for sports and for inspiring generations of journalists in over two decades of practice.
