Team Plateau has emerged champions of the second edition of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Democracy Day U-18 Basketball Championship after defeating M2 Academy 50-36 in the final.
The high-octane game, played at the indoor basketball court of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, witnessed thrilling display of grassroots basketball talents as Teams Plateau and M2 Academy were unbeaten enroute final.

The Plateau boys dominated their opponents winning the first quarter by 8 – 6 and extended the lead to 27-20 in the second quarter. The M2 boys came into the third quarter smoking but Plateau remained resilient as hostilities ended 36-32 still in favour of Plateau. The final and last quarter ended 50–36 as Plateau proved and maintained their superiority.
Earlier in the bronze medal game, the FCT U-18 boys recorded 70-53 basket over their Kaduna counterparts 70–53 in a one-sided affair.
The five-day tournament, themed “Encouraging Grassroots Basketball Talents”, according to the organisers aimed to identify, nurture, and promote young basketball talents to represent Nigeria in continental and global competitions.
A total of 16 teams, 10 male and 6 female, participated in the championship, which dunk off on Saturday, June 14.
